PPs Unismuh Prints Future Leaders: Postgraduate Students Shaped into Professional, Islamic-Minded Teachers

UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR — The Postgraduate Program (PPs) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh) reaffirms its commitment to producing professional educators at the tertiary level. Through the Teaching Skill Enhancement Program (PKM) for the 2025–2026 academic year, PPs Unismuh equips students in education programs with mature pedagogical skills and strong Islamic values.

The event, held in the I-Gift Theater, Unismuh Makassar Campus, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, was attended by students from various S2 education programs: Indonesian Language and Literature Education, English Education, Elementary Education, Sociology Education, and Mathematics Education.

PKM is a crucial stage in the academic process for postgraduate students before they begin teaching in classrooms. Through this program, they are trained not only to master interactive and varied learning strategies, but also to understand the role of lecturers as educators, mentors, and role models in the university environment.

Producing Excellent Lecturers

The event began with a lecture delivered by the Head of the S2 Islamic Education Program of PPs Unismuh, Dr. Rusli Malli, followed by a welcome speech from the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Dr. Andi Husniah, and the Director of PPs Unismuh, Prof. Erwin Akib, who officially opened the event. In his speech, Prof. Erwin emphasized the importance of PKM as a platform to strengthen the academic identity of postgraduate students at Unismuh.

"Postgraduate students are not only prepared to teach, but to become inspiring, honest, and capable lecturers who can integrate Islamic values into the learning process," said Prof. Erwin.

Develop Innovative Learning Plans

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director I of PPs Unismuh, Dr. Sukmawati, emphasized the importance of balancing technical teaching competencies with the strengthening of Islamic values. She also reminded tutors and supervisors to align PKM guidelines and materials before students begin their practical training.

"We hope that the development of the Semester Learning Plan (SLP) can be done innovatively and relevant to the needs of students and the challenges of higher education," said Sukmawati.

With this training, PPs Unismuh hopes that students in S2 education programs will emerge as professional and character-driven lecturers, bringing the Islamic education spirit that is a hallmark of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar.
