MPBSI Faculty Members from Unismuh Hold Deep Learning-Based Innovative Learning Support Workshop for SMPN 26 Makassar Teachers

UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR — Efforts to improve the quality of education continue through strengthening the capacity of educators. Twenty teachers from SMP Negeri 26 Makassar participated in a training program focused on innovation and deep learning approaches for teachers, Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

This activity is a form of community service organized by the Faculty of Language and Indonesian Literature (MPBSI) Postgraduate Program team at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh). The main speaker, Prof. Dr. A. Rahman Rahim, M.Hum., along with Dr. M. Agus, M.Pd., Dr. Suwadah Rimang, M.Hum., and Anas, delivered the training. The program was conducted intensively for one day, from 08.00 to 15.00 WITA, in the meeting room of SMPN 26 Makassar.

Nur Rahmah M.Pd, Head of SMPN 26 Makassar, welcomed the initiative as a concrete step to support the transformation of learning in line with the Merdeka Curriculum. "We hope that teachers can consistently apply this approach in the teaching and learning process," she said.

The training materials covered the introduction of deep learning concepts in education, the development of innovative teaching materials, and simulations that promote critical and reflective thinking skills in students. Participants were assisted in developing lesson plans and teaching materials that incorporated stimulating questions, collaborative tasks, and reflective activities.

According to Prof. A. Rahman Rahim, deep learning approaches can address the challenges of 21st-century education, which require deeper, meaningful, and applicable learning. "We can no longer rely solely on memorization. Teachers need to create learning experiences that stimulate students' reasoning and imagination," he said.

The evaluation results showed that all participants successfully developed innovative learning materials and showed high interest in applying them. The teachers also agreed to form a learning community as a platform for continuous collaboration in the school.

The service team proposed that further support should be provided on a regular basis. In addition, wider involvement from the Department of Education is needed to expand the application of this learning model in other schools.
